The City of Palo Alto Fire Marshal will be conducting its annual fire safety inspection:
DATE: RESCHEDULED to 8/4/25
BUILDINGS: 1520 Page Mill (Yúukiš Hall), 1701 Page Mill (’Arweh Hall), 1651 Page Mill (’Enésmin Hall), and 3145 Porter (Miryan Hall) (in that order).
TIME: Starting at 9am
AGENCY: City of Palo Alto Fire Department
FOCUS: Fire Safety, Life Safety (NOT hazardous materials)
How can I prepare?
- Egress, Hallways, Corridors, Stairways: No storage, combustible materials (wood, plastic, paper) or equipment staging for disposal is permitted. Exit paths, electrical panels, and fire alarm pull stations must be maintained free of obstructions. Exit signage must be illuminated.

- Storage: Avoid storing items on top of wall cabinets, refrigerators or in areas where they pose a potential risk to occupants (e.g. egress paths).
- Seismic Restraints: Secure ALL equipment and furniture taller than four feet, more than 400 pounds or in the egress path.

- 18″ Sprinkler Clearance: Do not store any item within 18″ of the ceiling or furthest reaching part of a sprinkler except along a wall where a sprinkler head is NOT present. This is particularly important when sprinklers are located near shelving units.

- Electrical Safety: Most electrical fires result from faulty electrical outlets, old wiring, and problems with cords, plugs and extension cords. Keep all equipment in safe-working condition. Never use defective tools or equipment with frayed electrical cords. Do not “daisy-chain” power strips and extension cords.

- Safety Equipment: Maintain clear access to safety equipment (fire extinguishers, safety showers or eyewash stations) at all times. Remove boxes, carts, etc. that may be blocking access. If a fire extinguisher is missing or expired, place a facility funded work order for service.

- Wall & Ceiling Penetrations: Missing ceiling tiles need to be replaced and holes in the walls/floors must be patched immediately.
