Jun 8, 2026 | Activities

Dear Colleagues,

The School of Medicine, Operation & Maintenance Department will be performing electrical maintenance, which will include a planned power shutdown of the building’s main switchgear and electrical system. This shutdown is being performed to allow testing of the utility power supply to the building. Emergency power systems and equipment connected to emergency power will be unaffected, during this testing period.

DATE :  Wednesday, August 5th, 2026

TIME : 4:00 a.m. –  8:00 a.m.

IMPACT : Normal Power will be off for approximately 4 hour during the testing period. Emergency power will not be affected.

SAFETY IMPACT :  There will be reduced lighting and no ventilation in the building during the shutdown. Fume hoods and biosafety cabinets will be inoperable. All chemical and hazardous material containers should be sealed AND all fume hood and biosafety cabinet sashes should be closed prior to the shutdown.

NOTE: During this planned outage, Operations and Maintenance request that all non-essential equipment in labs and offices be powered off. Equipment that may be adversely affected by sudden power loss, if possible, should be shut down, prior to the shutdown.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this shutdown, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Regards,

CARL HICKMAN
Assistant Chief Engineer – School of Medicine
