Dear School of Medicine Community,
We are writing to share important news about SoM-managed food service on the Palo Alto campus. After 26 years of operation, the Beckman Bistro and CCSR Cafe will be closing by the end of September. The last day of cafe operations will be Wednesday, Sept. 30.
This closure comes as Bob Lutticken, who has owned and operated both establishments, has decided to retire. For over two and a half decades, Bob, Barbara and their dedicated team have been incredible partners within the SOM community, serving countless meals and creating a welcoming space for staff, students and visitors alike.
We want to extend our deepest gratitude to Bob, Barbara and their entire team. Their commitment has been extraordinary — team members have stayed with the bistro and cafe anywhere from four to over 20 years, a testament to the culture Bob and Barbara built and the loyalty they inspired. Their consistency, warmth and hard work have meant so much to this community over the years, and we are deeply thankful for everything they have given us.
The Office of Facilities Planning and Management is actively exploring alternative food service options for our campus community. As those plans take shape, we will send a follow-up communication with more details.
Please join us in thanking Bob, Barbara and their team for 26 wonderful years, and in wishing them all the best in the future.
More information will follow soon.
Warm regards,
Bart Sapeta
