Dear School of Medicine Community,
We are writing to share an update on SoM-managed food service on the Palo Alto campus. As we shared last month, the Beckman Bistro and CCSR Cafe will close this week. The last day of cafe operations will be today (Wednesday, Sept. 30).
We once again extend our sincere appreciation to Bob, Barbara and the entire Lutticken’s team for 26 years of dedicated service to the SOM community. Their warmth and hard work have meant so much to so many, and they will be greatly missed.
While the School works toward a long-term replacement for these services, the Office of Facilities Planning and Management has arranged for food trucks** to begin serving on Monday, Oct. 5, at the end of Discovery Walk, next to the basketball court at Governor’s Lane. Each weekday, one truck will serve breakfast from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m., followed by a second truck serving lunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Before the food trucks arrive, and additional options afterward, the following food service locations are within walking distance:
- Med Cafe in the Li Ka Shing Center (LKSC), 291 Campus Drive
- Clark Center Cafe in the James H. Clark Center, 318 Campus Drive
- Kali Stanford in the ChEM-H and Neurosciences Building complex, 290 Jane Stanford Way
- Stanford Hospital dining at 300 Pasteur Drive, including Cafe 300, Nourish Cafe and Peet’s Coffee
For the medium term, the School is working to reopen CCSR Cafe location early next year with a value-oriented partner. That partner will serve the campus community over the next several years, until a permanent solution opens at the new 1215 Welch Road building, which is now under construction.
We recognize these changes will take some adjustment, and we appreciate your patience and understanding as we move through each phase.
